My name is Bill Taffel.

I moved into Westford in 1986, and have lived here for almost 40 years.

During that time, I have served on the Finance Committee, volunteered at the Cameron Senior Center, and raised three children, all of whom were students in the Westford schools.  I am now retired, and work part time at Whole Foods.

If you know me at all, it may be because I spearheaded an effort a few years ago to have a traffic light installed at the corner of Boston Road and Main Street, to make it easier for drivers to navigate that intersection (the effort failed by a narrow margin at Town Meeting).

I have no political agenda.  Nor do I have any criticism of the many town staff and citizen volunteers who took part in hosting the town meeting - I greatly appreciate their efforts at what is an exceedingly difficult task.

I simply think that everyone in the town would be well-served if we made it easier for people to vote on critical issues facing the town without having to undergo the hardship of attending town meeting.  Furthermore, virtually everyone I've talked with about the topic supports the idea.

I have discussed this objective with our State Representative Jim Arciero, and am hoping for some help from that quarter.

You can read here a letter that I wrote in 2021 to the editor of Westford CAT on the topic.  I made a pitch to the Select Board on the same topic in 2015.  I am not new to this issue, and I think matters have only become more difficult over time.

At this time I want to gauge the level of support in town for this idea, so I can determine whether to pursue it, since it will not be easy to accomplish.

Thank you in advance for  your participation.

The purpose of this site is to build a community of people in Westford who support the idea of enabling citizens to vote on warrant articles without having to attend town meeting.

If you support this idea, subscribe to keep in touch.

Maybe together we can get something to happen!

Thanks for subscribing!
