Bills in the State Legislature

​

Aside from the two town-specific bills for Wayland and Lexingtion, there is a host of more broadly applicable bills in the Legislature regarding remote participation at town meetings.  Some were filed in the 192nd session (2021-2022), and some in the current 193rd session (2023-2024). Those filed in the current legislative session all have a “Reporting date extended to 7/1/2024”.

Status of Bills

​

• April 8, 2024:  Lexington's bill H.668 (text) to allow remote participation at town meetings was "reported favorably by committee and referred to the committee on House Steering, Policy and Scheduling.

• As of April 4, 2023, Wayland's bill H.2053 (text) was scheduled for a joint hearing on April 11, 2023.  That hearing occurred.  The status since that time is uncertain. It is currently being actively worked by Wayland.

• All other bills relative to "modernizing town meeting" have had their reporting dates extended to July 1, 2024 by the House, pending concurrence by the senate.
